About the practice
Janus Gate Security
A small security practice in Somers, NY, for people who’d rather be treating patients or serving clients.
The Roman god Janus watched two directions at once, which is a decent job description for a clinic or a law firm: records inside, strangers outside. We exist to look both ways for you, then explain what we saw without making your stomach drop.

Why we started
Small practices got the same rules as big hospitals and none of the help
Big health systems have a security department. A four-chair dental office has an office manager who also orders the gloves. Both are expected to show a written HIPAA risk analysis, and the same goes for a three-lawyer firm holding client files under confidentiality duties and New York’s SHIELD Act.
The help on offer tended to arrive as a 90-page template, a software subscription, or a salesperson with a frightening slide. None of that is much comfort on a Tuesday with a full waiting room.
So Janus Gate does one thing: a fixed-scope piece of work, a price on the label, and a report a front-desk person can read. Nothing in it is meant to scare you into buying something.
Face one: inward
Where your records live, who can open them, and what happens if a laptop walks out the door.
Face two: outward
The inbox, the Wi-Fi and the phone calls from someone who “just needs to verify a few things.”
Wondering whether a practice your size is even on our radar? It is. Ask us on the phone.

Six habits you can hold us to
Scope first
The letter says what we’ll look at and what it costs. If the work grows, we ask before we touch it.
Front-desk English
If we write “mitigate lateral exposure,” we’ll also write what it means for the person who answers the phone.
Patterns, not people
Phishing results show how the practice did. Nobody is named, shamed or quoted back to their manager.
Nothing to resell
We bill for the engagement and nothing else. The roadmap names fixes, not our favorite vendor.
Honest about fit
If you’d be better served by an incident-response firm or a bigger shop, we’ll say so on the first call.
A person answers
Calls and email are read by the same small team who do the work, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
What working with us feels like
A fieldwork week, hour by hour
Most of our work is remote, but when we’re in your office the visit follows a rhythm designed to stay out of your patients’ and clients’ way.
- 8:30amArrive early
Before the first appointment
We check the front-desk machine, the router closet and the Wi-Fi while the office is quiet and nobody’s waiting on a screen.
- 10:00amShort chats
Twenty minutes each, with the people who use the systems
Front desk, billing, whoever fixes the printer. We ask how the day really goes, not how the policy says it should.
- 1:00pmThe restore
We watch a backup come back
A green tick is a promise. A restored file, with the time written down, is evidence.
- 3:30pmOut the door
A five-minute debrief, no surprises in the report later
We tell you what we noticed that day, so nothing in the final pages is news.
The short list of what we won’t do
Things you’ll never get from us
Honest limits are part of feeling safe. These are ours.
words
- A scare-tactic slideFindings are ranked low, medium or high with a reason, not a doom countdown.
- A guarantee you can’t be breachedNobody can honestly promise it. We help you be prepared and able to show your work.
- A test you didn’t approveEvery phishing email is agreed in writing before it’s sent.
- Emergency responseWe aren’t an incident-response firm. If something is happening now, we’ll point you to who to call first.
- A surprise second invoiceThe price in the scope letter is the price you pay.
